Newsletter - November 2011

A charity ball, walnuts and a mountain of prints to sign.

Inspired by the first real frost of winter and the bright pink dawn sky, I thought I'd sit here in this old pine chair with a strong mug of tea and write my newsletter.

October was mild with many days of low smoky golden light at chez-McDonald where renovations on the old farm continue. I stayed mainly in the studio with the sun streaming in, keeping me warm and contented as I began work on a couple of commissions of Rock and Polzeath.  Meanwhile, R. packed his kilt and raced over to Cornwall with a large 72" x 24" painting (image above) for the annual C.L.I.C. charity ball in Newquay - organized by friends, Hannah & Nigel - with 100% going to help kids with cancer.  Inspite of recession, austerity and general doom & gloom, the dinner and auction were a great success - my contribution: "Sunset Surfer, Watergate Bay", helped to push the total raised on the night to around £9,000!

Back in Brittany, Skye and I discovered that the old trees with the weird avocado-shaped pods were in fact walnut trees.  Our first harvest yielded about 800 and we've been enjoying them with... er... just about anything ever since!

With my tea almost finshed, my pen is poised above a mountain of new prints to sign. I've expanded my print collection which now includes both A1 and A2 sizes, with prices starting at just £20, so do take a look here: http://www.melaniemcdonald.co.uk/gallery_prints-of-cornwall.htm

As always, I'd love to hear from you. Feel free to ask me any arty questions or if you'd like to receive this newsletter, you can contact me here

Warm wishes, Mel xx
